I’ve had that experiences, & yes, it’s very rewarding & validating for the hundreds of hours of drills & games in the rain (or worse). But it gets better. In a decade or so some guy with a beard you don’t recognize will buy you a beer in a local dive bar because you coached him in Little League. 😜

I'm coaching my son's little league team for the 3rd year and my reason is that I want those kids to love the game, I don't care much about how good they are or will be. I think there is a huge hole in sports for kids that enjoy the game but don't want to be caught up in hyper-competetiveness.

I didn't make it past middle school baseball. I quit after an adult was so wildly over the top and competitive to the point where he told his own kid that "you're no son of mine," before leaving in the middle of a game. It killed my love for the game. I never want to do that to a kid.
